It is now known who will play the crazy robot Claptrap in the Borderlands movie. Jack Black will take on the role. But another candidate is quite disappointed.
This is what happened: After Kevin Hart was confirmed as Roland, the next big actor has now joined the cast of the Borderlands movie. Jack Black will play the crazy robot Claptrap. This was reported by The Hollywood Reporter on its website. Kevin Hart had previously been revealed as part of the cast there as well.
It is the next big face in the cast, alongside Hart and Cate Blanchett as Siren Lillith. Apparently, there was another applicant who is not so pleased with this choice.
Jim Foronda, the voice of Claptrap in Borderlands 3, is rather quite disappointed not to have been selected himself.

This is what the voice actor says about the choice: On Twitter, Jim Foronda expressed his disappointment:
I can’t lie, it’s quite a disappointment. I’ve been thinking about the possibility of being in the film for years. I love Borderlands. I love Claptrap. It’s a sheer joy to be his voice in the games.

As a fan notes, Foronda is not the first voice actor for Claptrap. The original voice actor was replaced before the release of Borderlands 3. There were some issues prior to his exit.
The original voice actor is David Eddings and he was dismissed due to disputes regarding his payment and stress with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. It even went so far as to allegations of physical altercations against the CEO. Subsequently, Jim Foronda took over.
When asked about it, he writes: “That’s true. But playing [Borderlands] since part 1 and being in the role of Claptrap for 4 years doesn’t make me love him any less.”
Why wasn’t the choice made in his favor? Foronda believes the reason is that a film involves significantly more parties than just the game development studio. However, he apparently does not hold a grudge against the decision. At least he presents himself as a “good loser”: “Congratulations, Jack Black, I know you must love him too. Please take good care of him [Claptrap].”
Jack Black as Claptrap is a “no-brainer”
This is what the film studio says: According to Nathan Kahane, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group behind the film, the decision is one of the “biggest no-brainers” ever made there. “Anyone who has played the game knows that Jack is perfect for this role.” They can hardly wait to add his energy and voice to the film.
Who is Jack Black anyway? In case you don’t know him, Jack Black is one of the crazier Hollywood actors of the last 20-30 years. He became known for roles in films like School of Rock. In 2005, he starred in King Kong, and he was also part of the remakes of Jumanji.
He has experience as a voice actor through the Kung Fu Panda films and various other animated movies. Musically, he is also known through the band Tenacious D.
