Borderlands 3 features four playable classes. Three of them seem to be a good choice in the endgame around Mayhem 3. Is Agent Zane too weak?
What type of class is Zane? Zane is an entertaining character. He can choose two action skills at once as the only class. However, he must forgo his grenades for this. This makes Zane very versatile and gives you different options to utilize his abilities.
Players like Zane, but …
As versatile as Zane seems throughout the campaign, he is allegedly outdated in the endgame. Compared to his three colleagues, the Beastmaster FL4K, the Gunner Moze, and the Siren Amara, he seems to lack enough survivability and damage.
Is Zane too refined for Borderlands 3?
This is Zane’s problem: The Agent is a technical class. To play him well, one must think strategically. This is great fun, but it doesn’t really fit Borderlands 3.
The loot shooter is less about strategy and more about hitting hard. Especially in the endgame, you need a lot of damage in a short amount of time.

Zane has too few options when it comes to pure damage from his skill trees. This makes him seem relatively weak compared to the other classes. It wouldn’t be so bad if he could rely on his clone. […] But at the end of the day, he can only depend on his weapon damage.

For many, fun is the priority. Perhaps it is also the case that Zane is not too weak for the endgame of Borderlands 3. His colleagues are just too strong. Borderlands 3 has only been out for two weeks, so a balance patch hoped for by fans is not out of the question.
