In Borderlands 3, the cartel event is slowly coming to an end. With the event, some powerful weapons will also say goodbye from the game. But there is still time to secure the best weapons.
When does the event end? “Revenge of the Cartels” is currently set to end on June 4, 2020. After that, you will likely not receive any new cartel quests from Maurice, and the highly popular map “Villa Ultraviolet” will no longer be accessible.
If the event content, as some fans wish, does not remain permanently available, several strong weapons will also no longer be obtainable. Currently, there are just over two weeks left to grab some of these. You should particularly keep an eye on these 3 if you want to hit the cartels again.
Yellowcake
This is what the Yellowcake can do: With the Yellowcake, you get an overpowered cannon that can melt everything and everyone in no time. The COV rocket launcher fires radiation projectiles that split multiple times and explode in huge explosions.
You can obtain it from cartel boss Joey Ultraviolet and his henchmen Tyrone Smallums and Fish Slap. You can encounter all of them in the villa, as well as while collecting cartel coordinates.
O.P.Q. System
This is what the O.P.Q. System can do: The O.P.Q. System immediately rose to become one of the best weapons in the entire game with its introduction, just like the Yellowcake. It is an Atlas assault rifle that has a version of itself flying alongside you. This drone also provides fire support against your enemies.
You are more likely to find the weapon with Joey Ultraviolet. Otherwise, keep an eye out for the mini-bosses Franco Fiewall and Josie Byte.
NoPewPew
This is what the NoPewPew can do: The COV assault rifle isn’t quite as powerful as the first two weapons, but it’s still worth collecting. The NoPewPew deals burn damage and increases the fire rate the longer you hold the trigger. Additionally, lava puddles form wherever you take down enemies. It is ideal against large groups of fire-vulnerable enemies.
It drops from the mini-bosses Roaster and The Tenderizer, but you can also grab it from Joey Ultraviolet.
What about event anointments?
Update, May 20: After community feedback that the anointments must be maintained, they will now most likely not disappear from the game. Gearbox confirmed to Kotaku that the anointments will remain in the game even after the event ends.
These currently include strong effects such as:
- 200% extra damage while the action skill is active
- 300% more weapon damage against enemies with 90% health or more
- 150% bonus elemental damage when you are at 50% health
This is how it originally looked: Previously, a community manager explained in the Gearbox forum that the effects would disappear with the end of the event – similar to how it happened with the terror anointments of Bloody Harvest.
Overall, it’s worth making a few more visits to the villa. If you don’t have Borderlands 3 yet, you can currently get it cheap on PS4.
