Currently, the limited-time Heartbreak Event is underway in Borderlands 3. However, a few old acquaintances unexpectedly appear who really do not fit the Valentine’s Day theme.
What the event brought: The “Heartbreak Day” will be celebrated in Borderlands 3 for one week. Thanks to the event, hearts will appear that you need to shoot. As a reward, you’ll receive two quite strong legendary weapons.
However, many players were quite surprised when they realized that not only hearts are fluttering around in the event. No, the Bloody Harvest ghosts are suddenly back in action as well.
Why are ghosts flying around here?
Background on the ghosts: The Bloody Harvest ghosts had almost become a controversial topic by the end of that Halloween event. Because the event ran until early December, the ghosts were in the game for an extremely long time – and for some players, quite annoying, as they constantly attacked.
Accordingly, some users reacted humorously but somewhat confused on Reddit. Some wondered: Did Gearbox make a mistake here?
- User iamzambi said: “I’ve seen a few here and there. I think Gearbox wants to mess with us by throwing in random ghosts from time to time to remind us how annoying those damned ghosts were.”
- User Widepaul was also confused: “I had ghosts a few times and wondered the first time what had gone wrong.”
However, it is unlikely that this is some sort of quirky mistake. Some players, like user GhostAccountGuy, shared pictures where they encountered some pretty amusingly named enemies:
Given the name, it is indeed likely that this is a joke on the part of the developers. After all, the long-standing ghosts were one of the reasons why players wished they could disable events – which by the way is now possible.
This is why the ghosts are useful: That the ghosts are back in action probably has another reason besides just a simple joke. Because with the last patch, there was a new level cap: Players can now reach Level 53.
As a result, the Bloody Harvest weapons at Level 50 are partially too weak to challenge the also boosted enemies. Since these weapons were only available in the event, but some players need them for their builds, Gearbox may have brought the ghosts back again.
The ghosts also drop the old event weapons at the new levels 51 to 53. So if you’re still missing Halloween loot, you now have the chance to pick it up with a bit of luck.
