Borderlands 3 is available for pre-order and purchase. If you like it big, get the Super Deluxe Edition. But should you take the plunge? Who is the purchase worth it for?
If you are interested in Borderlands 3 and want to pre-order the game, you have several options. In total, four different versions of Borderlands 3 are offered with various contents:
- The base game is already available for just 70 €
- The Deluxe Edition costs 85 €
- The Super Deluxe Edition demands 100 €
- The noble Diamond Loot Chest Collector’s Edition asks for a proud 250 €
Of all these versions, the biggest consideration is probably whether to buy the standard version or the Super Deluxe Edition, as this decision brings the most in-game differences. In this article, we explain what is included in the Super Deluxe Edition, who benefits from the purchase, and who should better stay away.
The differences between the base game and the Super Deluxe Edition
In direct comparison with the base game, the Super Deluxe Edition has a whole host of additional content. Most of these are purely cosmetic, but there are also some boosters that will make it easier to get into the game.
The complete contents of the Super Deluxe Edition are:
- Retro Cosmetic Pack: Vault Hunter head and skin, Echo Device skin, weapon skin
- Neon Cosmetic Pack: Vault Hunter head and skin, Echo Device skin, weapon skin
- Gearbox Cosmetic Pack: weapon skin, weapon trinket
- Toy Chest Weapon Pack: Two toy weapons, toy grenade mod, weapon trinket
- XP and loot delivery boost mods
- Season Pass for 4 upcoming DLCs
- Assassin’s weapon skin, weapon trinket, and grenade mod
The main argument is the Season Pass
The biggest difference between the other game versions is that the Super Deluxe Edition also includes the Season Pass. This includes at least four DLCs that will be added in the months following the game’s release.
The boosters of the Deluxe Edition, on the other hand, are negligible. They are only supposed to be useful at the beginning of the game and have no impact at higher levels.
What is included in the DLCs? The exact scope of the DLCs is still unknown. However, since Borderlands 3 strongly follows its predecessors, it can be assumed that the DLCs will again provide many new areas and several hours of replayable story content. At least in the past, the Borderlands DLCs were generally worth their price.
It was like this before: In the previous parts, the Season Pass for 4 DLCs cost around 30 € – this corresponds to the price difference between the “Standard” version of Borderlands 3 and the Super Deluxe Edition. From this perspective, the Super Deluxe Edition is already worth it because of the Season Pass alone. All the skins, weapons, and boosts are then basically a “free” bonus.
Should I buy the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 3?
This question can probably be answered based on a few points.
You should buy the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 3 if:
- You are willing to spend 100€ on a game and your financial situation allows for it.
- You are sure that you will be playing Borderlands 3 for a long time after the base game and are already eager for the story DLCs.
- You place a high value on exclusive, cosmetic items.
You should stay away from the Super Deluxe Edition if:
- You are not sure if you like the Borderlands universe, the graphic style, and humor.
- Your friends are still unsure if they will play along. Borderlands usually unfolds its charm in multiplayer. Borderlands 3 seems to be friendly for single players too.
- You do not want to play Borderlands 3 at launch. If you start months later, you may be able to acquire the different versions later at a discount.
Pre-ordering Borderlands 3 can be financially worthwhile
It will get more expensive after the pre-sale: Those who are still unsure about whether to take the plunge should make a decision by mid-September.
Then the price of the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 3 will rise by a whopping 20 € and cost 119.99 €.
