What is an Easter egg? Easter eggs are unexpected or undocumented details in games. They are hidden features that often bring a smile to players’ faces. Especially the Borderlands series has many such Easter eggs. Often, legendary weapons are affected.
Which Easter egg is it about? In Borderlands 3, there has been speculation for some time about 7 secret letters. Players found 2 “L”, 3 “K”, and 2 “D”. In the last Borderlands Show (via YouTube), Creative Director Graeme Timmins explained how these uppercase letters came to be in the game.
An Easter egg with a sweet story
This is behind the letters: Graeme Timmins refers to Erik Doescher with the letters. He is one of the designers of Borderlands 3. He is also responsible for the comic strips on the Twitter page (via Twitter). Doescher is said to have incorporated the Easter egg for his children.
The YouTuber Glitching Queen (via YouTube) researched this statement further. She discovered that Erik Doescher has five children. The names of his three daughters start with a “K” and those of his two sons with an “L”. This already explains the first five letters.
For the two “D“, the community is not sure. Of course, it could stand for the last name Doescher. Or for the parents, especially since the letters are sitting together on the couch. However, that will probably remain a secret.

- The Splinterlands – this is where the two “L” are at home

Graeme Timmins reveals that the team working on Borderlands 3 was allowed to make their own mark. They could incorporate Easter eggs as they pleased, as long as it didn’t disrupt the flow of the game.
