In Borderlands 3 there should actually be more anointed weapons than before. However, some players are unsuccessfully searching for the rare guns – is the buff not active?
This is how it should be: In the fourth week of the Anniversary Event, “Mayhem on Twitch” ran in Borderlands 3. This event week brought an increased drop chance for anointed weapons and more pleasant modifiers in Mayhem mode.
Both were so well received by the players that Gearbox decided to keep the adjusted drop rates and Mayhem modifiers active. But did it work as hoped?
Players are searching for anointed weapons
This is the current state: While the Mayhem modifiers are definitely still working as desired, the question of the anointed weapons is currently open. Some players are currently unsuccessfully searching for the anointed weapons – and legendary drops also seem to be occurring less frequently for some players.
reddit user “commonsince” reports that he clears Athenas five times a day, but in four out of five attempts he doesn’t get any legendary drops at all. “OcelotInTheCloset” reports that the drop rate has indeed been nerfed – but without specific numbers. However, it is uncertain whether this was intended by Gearbox.
Journalist Paul Tassi from “Forbes” has also made inquiries about the anointed weapons. Several runs against Graveward, who is a popular farming spot, yielded almost no anointed weapons. Another session did yield anointed weapons, but only those with terror effects from loot ghosts. He searched in vain for normal anointed weapons.
Where could the error lie? There is currently no official statement from Gearbox on this matter. However, it is possible that the patch from last week plays a role – it also adjusted the drop rates of anointed weapons. It is possible that the basic drop rate was inadvertently lowered.
On the other hand, some players suspect that the new loot rates are some kind of preparation for “Dedicated Drops.” This was announced by Gearbox for the future – players should have a clearer idea of which weapons are available where to collect. It is possible that the changes in the code are already a first step toward that.
The upcoming updates could provide more precise information about the situation. At least Gearbox has done a lot right with the latest patches:
