Borderlands 3 offers loot and XP boosters for buyers of special game editions. What this is all about has now been clarified.
When Borderlands 3 was introduced a few weeks ago, fans immediately noticed a small detail. Those who secure one of the deluxe editions receive a few additional boosters. These increase the XP gained and the chance for good loot. This caused discussions, but Gearbox has now clarified a few things.
This is what the publisher says about the boosters: PCGamer received a response from the publisher 2K, who commented on the two items. We have translated the response for you:
“Although Borderlands 3 is not a competitive game where boosters could lead to an advantage over other players, we take the balance of progression and the loot system very seriously. We are still fine-tuning these systems and the benefits of the boosters from the Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions.
We can already confirm that these boosters have a level cap and are tied to certain equipment, similar to boosters in the past. The intention is to give players a boost at the start, but nothing that carries through the entire experience of Borderlands 3.”
So the boosters are only limited advantages that have no utility in the endgame. Since Borderlands is all about “cooperation”, the impacts are minimal anyway.
This is how it was in earlier parts: Even in Borderlands 2, players could access special boosters. At that time, there was no major outcry, partly because some of these boosters could be found in the game. Thus, it was only a short-term advantage when starting the game with these boosters.
