Borderlands 3 is introducing a new mode in its second content year after the launch. This stand-alone game mode will be called Arms Race and will mainly revolve around weapons.
Borderlands 3 has been on the market for a year now and has released its first 4 DLCs. Recently, there was the crazy story about the Psycho Krieg. But what will happen next with the colorful, over-the-top shooting action?
In an interview with GameSpot, studio head Randy Pitchford and creative director Graeme Timmins talked about the upcoming plans for Borderlands 3. Timmins is particularly concerned about the many weapons in the game. After all, there are countless of them, but most are worthless and aren’t even picked up.
New Game Mode with Weapons and a Touch of Battle Royale Flair
What is this game mode about? Thus, the developers are planning a new mode called Arms Race. This stand-alone mode takes place on an isolated island. That feels a lot like Battle Royale and Randy Pitchford also mentioned that fans of Call of Duty: Warzone and other Battle Royale games should definitely find enjoyment here.
“But it’s not a Battle Royale game,” Pitchford added directly. Rather, the focus is on the many weapons in the game. Timmins said: “Our goal with Arms Race is to make the gun game in our ‘game of millions of weapons’ really significant.
When is the new mode coming? Timmins would have liked to talk longer about the Arms Race mode in the interview, but he isn’t allowed to. They want to reveal more about it later in October 2020. When exactly the mode will come is still unclear. However, it should be released sometime in 2020.
This is how the new mode could play out in the game
So far, we only know that it is a stand-alone mode, that it plays on a deserted island, and that weapons play a big role. Since, according to Pitchford, it will not be a Battle Royale, it could be a kind of competitive PvEvP game like The Cycle.
There, the main goal is to collect loot and defend against the monsters in the surrounding area. Those who collect enough in the end win and if they want, they can also attack the competition. I think it’s quite possible that Borderlands 3 will take a similar approach with Arms Race. We’ll learn more in October.
