In the Halloween event of Borderlands 3, there are some special items that you can secure. How to get them can be found here.
These items are provided by Bloody Harvest: If you have already started playing Bloody Harvest, you may have already stumbled across one of the event items. So far, four have been found. They are:
- The Fearmonger Shotgun
- The Stalker Sniper Rifle
- The Ghast Call Grenade
- The Scream of Terror Shield
This is what makes the items special: All four items are classified as “Legendary”. Especially the Ghast Call Grenade, which unleashes several flying skulls on enemies, has proven to be very useful. Fearmonger and Stalker can leverage the new “Terror” mechanic of the event. The Scream of Terror Shield screams around when it breaks. But how do you get the four items?
Farm Captain Haunt or hunt ghosts?
Here are the items: In general, you can get the two weapons, the grenade, and the shield mainly through two ways. In Bloody Harvest, you must face Captain Haunt at the end. There is a chance that he will drop one of the 4 items.
The second option is to hunt ghosts. You will need to do this anyway to reach Haunt – because to challenge him, you must collect 25 units of ectoplasm. Which option is more worthwhile?
This is how worthwhile Captain Haunt is: Those who reach Captain Haunt will be offered an exciting boss fight. However, he cannot be farmed like other bosses. To challenge Haunt, players must continuously collect ectoplasm. This can take quite a while.
This would be less of a problem if Haunt reliably dropped the sought-after weapons. However, several players report, for example in the Gearbox Forum, that they did not receive any event items during some runs. Although Haunt dropped legendary weapons – but not the desired ones. One point, by the way, that will also be addressed regarding other bosses soon.
This is how worthwhile the ghosts are: Another option that players try is hunting loot ghosts. These are special golden ghosts that drop particularly powerful weapons.
To catch them, one must defeat gold-glowing enemies, which releases a loot ghost. This follows the same principle as finding normal ghosts – just with a higher rarity level.
The problem: The loot ghosts are very rare. Some locations have proven to be more useful than others. Travel especially to places where you find many enemies that are easy to defeat. The more enemies you have, the greater the chance of finding a rare loot ghost. The following locations are particularly suggested:
- The waterfall at Voracious Canopy on Eden-6
- The Slaughter Shaft on Pandora
- Ectoplasm
This method seems to be leading to more success in terms of weapons in the community than many fights against Haunt. However, Haunt’s drop rate has been improved via hotfix – it’s possible that he will drop stronger items more often soon.
