The first DLC for Borderlands 3 has been announced. An old acquaintance is making a return, as the teaser shows a giant Handsome Jack.
Good it’s been two months since the release of Borderlands 3. Aside from a Halloween event, there hasn’t been much to do in the shooter, but that will likely change soon. A teaser has hinted at the first major story DLC, and we’ll encounter old acquaintances.
What does the teaser show? In the short clip, we first see a statue and then a large hologram of Handsome Jack, with many yellow buildings in the background, which is typical for Hyperion. Moxxi’s voice speaks and asks, “Ready to bring down the house?” In German, this would be roughly “Ready to rock the house?”
What does this mean? Those who played Borderlands 2 might recognize the familiar setting of Opportunity in the trailer. That was the city that Hyperion founded under the leadership of Handsome Jack. In Borderlands 2, there were many missions there, such as bringing down statues of Jack, killing his doubles, and sabotaging Hyperion in other ways. We don’t yet know how the city has fared since then.
Is it really Handsome Jack? Just because a hologram of Handsome Jack is shown, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Jack appears in “living” form. However, it is possible that he shows up as a digital representation of himself. After all, Handsome Jack existed in this form in “Tales from the Borderlands”, and the final decision of the game was whether to destroy or preserve this copy of Handsome Jack.
It is conceivable that Gearbox takes the decision of “preserving” as canon and spins a new story from it.
When will we get more information? We will learn more about the first major DLC of Borderlands 3 on November 20. Then the DLC will be presented and revealed.
