This is the situation: Gearbox is a large studio with about 350 to 400 employees. However, after the end of Battleborn, they have officially not been working on any major games.
Unofficially, however, everyone knows that they are working full force on a successor to Borderlands, a cult-followed series of shooter games.
Borderlands 3 has not been officially announced yet, even though many fans of the series are waiting for it. Therefore, Gearbox cannot talk about the game.
Currently, fans are hoping that Borderlands 3 will be presented on Nikolaus Day, December 6, 2018. That is next Thursday night to Friday. The Video Game Awards will take place then. This year, there are expected to be unusually many new announcements since the PlayStation Experience 2018 has been canceled.
This is what has happened now: The head of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, has been active on Twitter since Thursday. The number “Three” seems to have suddenly captivated him.
So he tweeted on November 29: “On my to-do list today are only 3 things. But in addition, I have 3 meetings scheduled before 3 PM. Is the universe trying to tell me something?
On November 30, the message came: “Fun fact: Today is day number 334 (the days that the year has already had). Yesterday was day 333. It’s quite fascinating how the human brain works and suddenly sees meaning in all sorts of random numbers. People will go crazy when the calendar jumps to the year 3000.”
Shortly after, the message came: “It feels like E3 again.”
Additionally, Pitchford speaks extensively about the award show on December 6.
What does all this mean? Pitchford is probably thinking about the “number 3”, the Video Game Awards, and the past E3.
Fans see all these statements as allusions to a “Borderlands 3” and believe that it will finally be announced at the Video Game Awards on December 6.
Officially, however, all of this is not the case. It could also be a nasty bluff just to keep Borderlands 3 in the conversation. Then Pitchford would have had his fun.
