After the release of the Maliwan Takedown update, players in Borderlands 3 discovered a cool Easter egg. Behind a new weapon lies a clever reference to an iconic firearm from Destiny 2: the Bad Juju has received a counterpart in Good Juju.
The Borderlands series is known for hiding references in its gear – whether to pop culture or other video games. Now the developers at Gearbox have included a humorous nod to Destiny 2 in their latest work – in the form of a new weapon.
Which weapon is it about? It is about a new legendary assault rifle – the Good Juju. The weapon was recently introduced with the Maliwan Takedown in the game. It comes from the manufacturer Dahl and fires 4-shot bursts.
What is special about the weapon? Not every Borderlands player will recognize it immediately, but attentive Vault Hunters who have also tried their hand as Guardians in the Destiny franchise should quickly understand what makes the Good Juju so special.
Because the name, the weapon description, and partly the appearance are a direct reference to a well-known weapon from the Destiny universe.
Which weapon does the Good Juju refer to? The reference clearly targets the exotic weapon Bad Juju. This is known as Bad Juju in English and appears in both Destiny titles.
But there are more parallels than just the name. The corrupted, monstrous aesthetics of both weapons are very similar. Additionally, Gearbox has drawn inspiration from the weapon mechanics of Destiny – both guns, for example, reload their magazine on kills.
Even in the weapon description, there is a clear nod to Bad Juju. The weapon description of the Good Juju in Borderlands 3 states: “Kinda, sorta wants to end all existence.”
In the original from Destiny 1, Bad Juju is described with a line from Toland the Shattered, an important lore character: “If you believe your weapon wants to end all existence, then it will.”
How to get the Good Juju in Borderlands 3: You can earn the Good Juju by defeating the Rampager boss on Promethea or Graveward on Eden-6. The weapon is a random drop – so you may need to farm a bit. It is important that you play on the newly added Mayhem Mode level 4 – that is Mayhem 4.
