A playable version of Borderlands 3 at E3 2019 is receiving rave reviews. Journalists are excited about what is so great about the gameplay demo of the new shooter. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford seems to be grinning from ear to ear. It could hardly have gone better for Borderlands 3 before its release in September 2019.
What happened with Borderlands 3 at E3 2019: Actually, Borderlands 3 wasn’t a huge topic at E3 2019. The big reveal happened earlier in May with its own hands-on event. Gearbox didn’t have much to show at E3:
- There was a bit of gameplay featuring the hero Moze beforehand
- a cool new trailer
- and new information on how to send weapons.
While there was a free DLC for Borderlands 2 – it had already been leaked previously and wasn’t a big surprise. However, the DLC for our author Robert is the highlight of the fair.
During the press conferences, there was relatively little noise about Borderlands 3. Games like Watch Dogs 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 dominated the show.
But that changes now, as people could really play the loot shooter at the booths.
Gameplay demo of Borderlands 3 receives high praise
Here’s what the journalists are raving about: At E3, journalists were able to play a demo of Borderlands 3, and it seems to have impressed many.
According to Engadget : “Stop the voting, this is the game of the year 2019.”
In Borderlands 3, everything feels right: aiming, movement, firing. The headshots came easily to the author, and there are great enemies.
He had to kill 50 enemies in the first 5 minutes of the demo before he reached the mini-boss Mouthpiece.
The author fantasizes about 17 million unique firearms and is generally thrilled.
According to Tom’s Hardware , the author is also completely convinced by Borderlands 3 after 30 minutes with Moze:
- He says the whole thing feels reactive, bright, and fluid.
- The gunplay is described as “focused and tight.”
- The cartoon graphics look vibrant and grotesquely beautiful.

This is what’s behind it: Such preview events are, of course, designed to maximize hype. Therefore, they should be taken with caution – people will have spent only relatively little time in the game.
Possible weaknesses of such loot shooters often only become apparent after intense play and outside of “fixed” routines.
Nevertheless, Borderlands 3 seems to have made a good impression at a fair where there was little gameplay and many trailers.
