Borderlands 3 will receive a new endgame with Mayhem 2.0 this week. And the Cartels are also coming – this is what to expect.
When is the update coming? The update, including the revamped Chaos mode and the event “Revenge of the Cartels,” will go live on Thursday, April 23rd. Players won’t have to wait much longer for the endgame update – and it will bring a lot to discover.
Mayhem 2.0 will be crazy – makes endgame more exciting
This is what Mayhem 2.0 will look like: Currently, one can still distinguish between Chaos levels 1 to 4 after completing the story. These make enemies stronger and improve loot. There will be modifiers that randomly adjust things like damage from certain elements.
With the new update, however, the Chaos mode will be expanded to a total of 10 Mayhem levels. There will also be over 25 modifiers, divided into categories “Easy,” “Medium,” “Hard,” and “Very Hard.”
“Easy” mods will be somewhat helpful by increasing your weapon damage but will also cause stronger spread. It is noticeable that the new mods will be a bit crazier than the previous ones. For example, there are:
- Galaxy Brain (easy) – Enemies get large heads, for easy critical hits
- The floor is lava (medium) – You have to keep moving because lava forms beneath you if you stand still
- Drone Ranger (hard) – Enemies spawn healing drones that support them
More mods have not been presented by the developers yet, but they showed how the distribution across the different levels will look like:
With each Chaos level, the weapons you can find will become stronger. There will also be new weapons that you can add to your arsenal. The endgame after the new max level will be significantly revamped even for those who have mastered every conceivable challenge in Borderlands 3.
Revenge of the Cartels starts, runs for six weeks
This is what the new event will be: On April 23rd, the new event “Revenge of the Cartels” will start and will run until June 4th. This brings the new location “Villa Ultraviolet” and replaces the current mini-events.
The Saurian Maurice sends you to reach the villa and challenge gangster boss Joey Ultraviolet there. To accomplish this, you must eliminate cartel agents throughout the galaxy, who may be guarded by pretty strong badass enemies. If you defeat them, you will receive the coordinates to the villa.
There you will have to face hordes of enemies from three different gangs. Each gang comes with its own enemy types and minibosses, all of which have their own loot pools. So it’s worth taking the villa down several times.
There will also be new anointed weapons and legendary gear. Additionally, new cosmetics will be available, which you can complete through challenges. So for those who had nothing more to do in Borderlands 3, there will be plenty of content coming this week.
