For players who have several million GTA$ in their account through cheats, glitches, or hard work, this is no problem. They pay for it from the coffee fund and don’t even have to blink. The only silver lining: the cannon has a 48-minute cooldown.
A hit from the cannon can take out multiple players at once. No matter if they’re hiding under bridges, behind buildings, in stores, or in tunnels. The only places where a shot from the orbital cannon can’t hit you are, for example, your bunkers or apartments. So places where you can’t use weapons.
Players are upset that they can do practically nothing against a hit. Without warning, you die from one second to the next.
Especially nasty is it when you want to deliver the earnings of your bunker, cocaine labs, or other production sites to cash in a few hundred thousand dollars. It takes many hours of grinding and hard work to produce that much stuff. If the cannon hits you while you’re delivering the valuable cargo, everything is gone. Poof. Then the hours of hard work were for nothing, just like that.
Shortly after the introduction of the cannon, players were able to exploit glitches to bypass the 48-minute cooldown of the cannon and shoot for free. A Michael Bay movie doesn’t offer half as many explosions as could be seen and felt at that time in Los Santos.
Good against annoying competitors
This weapon offers you a good way to get revenge against annoying players. Competitors who camp you and annoy you in online mode can receive an expensive but nice greeting from the orbital cannon.
Currently, however, the potential of the weapon is mostly utilized by super-rich players, modders, or trolls to annoy others.
How the orbital cannon works in GTA 5 Online
This gimmick has been around since the latest update in GTA 5 Online. Players can buy an underground base there and equip it with the orbital cannon. This gives you a round extra room in the base, with a digital map in the middle. Perfect for circling your targets with your finger.
Once you have this overpowered weapon in your possession (upgrading it in the base costs 900,000 GTA$), you can immediately look for your first victim. During the holidays, Rockstar was generous and gives you one target free of charge.
The target search is manual or automatic; you can choose. Then you select your target, shoot, and you’re done.
