The people responsible at Blizzard have now announced that the next BlizzCon will take place in September 2026 after a two-year break. Don’t worry, the big reveal of the new WoW expansion will happen before that!
What has Blizzard announced in detail? In a new announcement on worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com, it states that BlizzCon will return next year. Specifically, the event is set to take place from Saturday, September 12, 2026, to Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Furthermore, the developers’ statement says:
Since our first event in 2005, a lot has happened. In the last 20 years since its founding, BlizzCon has inspired us to many innovations, creative ideas, and the creation of unique moments. It is important that we put together an event that is worthy of the community.
In addition to BlizzCon classics like the opening ceremony, in-depth presentations, the Darkmoon Faire, community competitions, opportunities to try out new content, and more, we want to make this legendary celebration even more spectacular in 2026 to provide an unforgettable experience for all participants.
We are developing this event just like our games: with a deep commitment to our players, with respect for your connection to our universes, and as a symbol of the strength of the bonds created through this shared adventure.

BlizzCon is an experience you won’t forget quickly:
Why is the date unusual? Since 2005, BlizzCon has taken place 15 times, with the event being set in November starting from 2013 (except for the online event in the pandemic year 2021), and prior to that, it always took place in August or October. So in 2026, we will see the first September BlizzCon.
The announcement also clarifies that BlizzCon will not take place in two consecutive years for the first time. The previous years without Blizzard’s home convention were 2006, 2012, 2020, 2022, and 2024.
Is WoW: The War Within running longer than expected?
You might be wondering if this allows for conclusions about big reveals such as the next WoW expansion. After all, BlizzCon in the past has always been the perfect event to dive deep into the new features of World of Warcraft.
However, through the roadmap for WoW revealed at the end of 2024, we already know that the second part of the World Soul saga – the WoW expansion Midnight – is set to be revealed in late summer 2025. So, it will happen without BlizzCon, but likely with an online showcase.
The fact that Blizzard is forgoing a BlizzCon this year despite the Midnight reveal is a strong indication that there isn’t enough to show from other projects yet, but that could be different in September 2026. Perhaps we will see an announcement next year for the first time that was initiated by Microsoft’s acquisition in October 2023.
