Blizzard is working behind the scenes on new games and production is going well. But when can we expect first information about new franchises?
A large game studio like Blizzard always has several irons in the fire. But aside from World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone and others, Blizzard is already secretly working on a “new IP” – that is, a new franchise.
According to Blizzard’s financial report from last week, the development pipeline is in a “better position than ever before”. The developers have some great ideas they are already working on. There are several teams currently working on the “incubation” of ideas – that is, turning a vague concept into a fun game design with concrete proposals.
Mobile market targeted by Blizzard
The mobile market is still on Blizzard’s radar, as there is a large potential target audience. However, specific details remain unaddressed.
Most of Blizzard is still busy providing ongoing games with updates and new content, and keeping the current player base entertained.
In summary, this is the usual “Blizzard talk” when they do not want or are not allowed to make concrete statements. But perhaps Blizzard will once again manage the feat of transforming a market that has already been dominated and also sending a truly major player into the mobile sector.
Concrete information is likely to come no earlier than BlizzCon 2017 in November. However, it is also possible that the development of the new IP will take many more years – as long development times are a tradition that has proven successful at Blizzard.
