Despite the strong reaction to Diablo: Immortal, Blizzard announces: We are working on many mobile titles simultaneously.
The announcement of Diablo: Immortal was many things, but not exactly the highlight of BlizzCon for fans. For those who do not care about mobile titles, the following news may not be well received: Blizzard still has “many more” mobile titles in production.
When was this said? During BlizzCon, Blizzard also held a press conference where Allen Adham and Wyatt Cheng answered some questions that not only revolved around the new aspects of BlizzCon but also informed about the future of the company.
What was said? Allen Adham, one of Blizzard’s founders, stated at a press conference:
“Regarding Blizzard’s view on mobile gaming, I can say that many of us have moved away from primarily playing on desktop PCs in recent years and instead have spent many hours on mobile devices. And many of our best developers are currently working on new mobile titles for all our IPs.
Some of them are being developed with external partners, such as Diablo: Immortal, many of them are being developed solely in-house. We will release more information about this in the future.”
Considering that Blizzard is currently working on several Diablo games in parallel, as well as on many mobile titles, the second part of Adham’s response makes sense:
“I can also say that we are currently working on more new products simultaneously than ever before in Blizzard’s history. Our future is bright.”
How many titles are exactly in development is unknown. However, if all IPs are to be covered, there would be at least four (Diablo, Warcraft, Overwatch, StarCraft).
Here are 5 reasons why Diablo: Immortal will be better than expected.
What does this mean for PC players? When the news broke, many PC players were worried that Blizzard had forgotten about them and was now only focusing on the mobile market to end up like “one of many” cash grab developers. However, this seems rather unlikely, as:
- At least one PC Diablo is in development
- WoW is continuously supplied with new content
- Warcraft 3 is being “reforged” for PC
What do you think about this news? Is it good that Blizzard is aggressively pushing into the mobile market? Or should they care more about their PC fans?
