In July 2023, the next patch “Rifts in Time” for World of Warcraft is set to be released, but on the public test servers, players already discovered a quest that they disliked. They demanded that the mission should be rewritten or deleted. Now Blizzard has responded to the criticism.
What quest is it about? On the public test servers, players can preview update 10.1.5 and discovered the quest “A Missing Soul”.
What was the criticism of the quest? In “A Missing Soul”, the players were tasked with ensuring that the Demon Soul – a powerful artifact of Deathwing – is in its rightful place.
The Demon Soul was once used to imprison, torture, and forcibly make the Dragon Queen Alexstrasza lay eggs. If the Demon Soul were no longer in its place, Alexstrasza could escape and spare herself and her clan suffering. You were to prevent this and travel to the past with Chromie.
Players criticized the quest because it was their task to ensure that Alexstrasza is tortured and forced to lay eggs against her will.
Blizzard rewrites controversial quest
How did Blizzard respond? Shortly after the criticism arose, Blizzard stated that the development team intends to remove the quest from the game, adjust it, and release it in a revised form.
The new version of the quest is now playable and is called “A Mislaid Egg” instead of “A Missing Soul”.
What do you do now in the quest? Your task is no longer to ensure that the Demon Soul is in its place. Instead, you now have to place a red dragon egg at a specific location in Dun Algaz and thus ensure that the egg is discovered by Rhonin.
When Rhonin discovers the egg, it triggers the events that lead to Alexstrasza’s rescue.
