Blizzard clarifies the tweet that many believed was a hint that Blizzard wants to bring Diablo 3 to the Nintendo Switch.
Yesterday, a small hype spread through the Diablo 3 community. With a funny tweet, Blizzard could have announced a D3 version for the Nintendo Switch. But apparently, the community’s thoughts went too far – Blizzard likely didn’t think that far with this announcement.
Smart Blizzard tweet turns out to be not so smart
We might have set the bar too high. Yesterday, on March 2nd, we reported on how clever Blizzard hinted at a Diablo 3 version for the Switch. With a Diablo nightlight that was turned on and off, “Diablo Switch” was connected in English.
The joy in the community was great! Many fans wanted this hint to be true so they could finally play D3 on the Switch. But now the Blizzard team is taking a bit of the wind out of the hopeful gamers’ sails.
In an interview with Polygon, a Blizzard spokesperson stated “We can assure you that we are not that clever. It was just a way to interact with the community. We have nothing to announce.”
Those who do not want to completely bury their hope for a Switch version of Diablo 3 can hold on to the words “We have nothing to announce”. The spokesperson could have also said, “A Switch version for Diablo 3 is not currently planned.”
That said: Blizzard IS clever. There may already be a complete marketing plan for a Switch version of the hack-and-slash, which is why they cannot announce anything “right now.”
Or is Blizzard really that clever?
If there is indeed a creative mind behind this tweet, the responsible individual should be promoted because:
- Even though no official announcement followed, Blizzard has now received tons of feedback from fans wishing for a Switch version.
- Hidden behind a riddle that was not too obvious, but also not too hidden.
- Did they want to test with this tweet how great the interest in a new D3 version for this console would be?

Whether intentional or not. The data they received from potential buyers of a D3 Switch version should interest project managers at Blizzard. We are curious which Blizzard games will make it to the Nintendo Switch in the future.
After two years of cooldown, this Diablo 3 item is finally ready for action
