Several Warcraft games for mobile devices? The Blizzard CEO has basically confirmed it. We reveal what’s coming for you.
A few years ago, Blizzard announced that they wanted to increase their presence in the mobile market. Despite somewhat negative comments like “Don’t you have smartphones?”, it’s a fact that many people around the world own a smartphone and can play games on it.
The development of these mobile titles seems to be progressing well, as the CEO stated that they are already in “advanced development”.
Where does the information come from? Activision-Blizzard recently held their “Financial Earnings Call,” during which the major franchises of the developer were discussed. The successes of the past year were enumerated, and some plans for the future were hinted at. Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Blizzard, spoke with the investors and revealed some future plans.
What was said? Kotick revealed a whole range of information. Much of it is still a bit vague, but for fans of the Warcraft series, it should still be a reason for joy. Kotick mentioned that they plan to “deliver more and more premium content for the Warcraft franchise to maintain and grow the World of Warcraft community.”
However, the next quote is even more interesting:
We have created several mobile free-to-play experiences, and they are now in an advanced state of development.
It seems that Warcraft will not only receive a single mobile spin-off but several.
What kind of games could these be? So far, this can only be speculated. However, there could be a whole range of titles, as the Warcraft franchise lends itself to a variety of possibilities:
- Pet Battle Mobile: The pet battle system from World of Warcraft could receive a mobile spin-off that connects with the base game. This way, players could have pet battles on the go.
- Hero Collector: A typical collection game where the player collects various known Warcraft characters and sends them on missions or lets them compete against other players, similar to “AFK Arena.”
- Strategy Title: A mix of Warcraft III and mobile games that focuses on base building and interaction with other players. For instance, a Night Elf could establish a base and send troops to attack a rival Orc.
Ultimately, Blizzard has hardly any limits, and what will actually be implemented remains to be seen.

This event will take place in just under two weeks and replaces the usual BlizzCon, which is canceled due to the Corona pandemic and the corresponding protective measures. Nevertheless, Blizzard wants to deliver a great show and surely present one or the other innovation for the coming years – a Warcraft mobile game would be one of the possible candidates.
