A look at the job postings from Blizzard reveals that the game studio wants to take new directions again. What new game is coming?
If you regularly keep an eye on the job offers from Blizzard’s website, you will occasionally receive new information. Recently, a few new job postings appeared that provide some hints about what Blizzard will be working on in the future.
What job postings are available? Several postings catch the eye. They are looking for:
- a Senior Quest Designer to work on a “yet-to-be-announced mobile project”
- a Lead Level Designer for an “unannounced project” with knowledge of engines typically meant for large PC games (Unreal, Unity, and CryEngine)
- a Character Artist for a “mobile game” with a clear focus on “human characters”
- a Software Engineer with experience in modern “first and third-person AAA titles”
Blizzard has special requirements: As is typical for Blizzard, there are a number of requirements for the individual jobs, which can be quite entertaining to read. Besides the specific skills necessary for professions in the field, there are also some further qualifications that Blizzard is known for:
- Passion for board games, RPGs, and action games
- Especially strange: You should “have no fear of bears and instead treat them with respect, dignity, and caution, as they deserve”
What exactly the upcoming game has to do with bears, or whether it’s just a joke in the job posting, remains to be seen.
Which games are possible? That a new Diablo project is already in the works is as good as certain. After all, Blizzard promised a few weeks ago that there will be new Diablo announcements this year – presumably at BlizzCon in November.
It makes sense that Blizzard wants to have another pillar in the huge mobile market besides Hearthstone. Which of their game universes they want to use for this is still uncertain.
A possible expansion of the Overwatch franchise in the mobile market is conceivable, but an action RPG that focuses on a handful of the popular characters would also be a possibility.
Overall, Blizzard is keeping us in the dark about what is currently being worked on.
A completely new IP? Some hints also suggest that Blizzard is working on a completely new game universe, as “creating new worlds” has been mentioned in multiple instances. However, it could also simply refer to worlds within the known franchises. The excitement continues!
From the first job postings of a new project to an official announcement typically takes several years – especially with Blizzard. So, one should not expect this project to be presented at this BlizzCon. But maybe there is a chance for a new Diablo title…
What kind of title would you like to see and play? Let us know in the comments!
