Diablo 4 appears to be a game that will accompany us for a very long time. The developers already have big plans regarding the story and hint at several expansions. And exactly that has been missing in Diablo 3.
What has Blizzard said about the story? According to Art Director John Mueller, the team has considered what story could be told in Diablo 4 when there is a world with such a rich lore.
Therefore, the main game only represents Chapter 1 of the entire story. The story is intended to be treated like a book. You experience Chapter 1 by purchasing Diablo 4. And in this chapter, you will face Lilith.
But there are many more interesting characters and figures in the lore of Diablo. Some of them the developers want to introduce gradually.

There are still many plans
Will we meet old acquaintances? Yes. Blizzard didn’t want to reveal exactly who will appear, but it is said that the characters are ones we have encountered before. Maybe the Dark Lord Diablo will be back as well.
In the gameplay trailer, Duriel, the Lord of Pain, can also be seen. He was the boss enemy in the second act of Diablo 2 and returns alongside Lilith in Part 4.
Are there also new characters? Blizzard is planning this as well. It also makes sense to encounter new characters. After all, the world has evolved, there are new characters in Sanctuary, and they will pursue their own goals. However, the developers did not want to reveal more about this yet.
What exactly does this mean? Blizzard had already hinted earlier that Diablo 4 is supposed to receive add-ons. And this is now another hint at that.
Diablo 4 will apparently accompany us for quite a while and will constantly offer new chapters in the story, which we will apparently receive in the form of expansions.
Will Diablo 4 become an MMO?
Why is this something special? For Diablo 3, players wished for more than just one expansion, and there was probably at least one add-on in development that was never released.
Diablo 4 now addresses the players’ wishes and makes it clear from the start that the story is designed for a very long period and continues after the first chapter “Diablo 4”. Players can therefore look forward to many more chapters.
That’s why it sounds more and more like an MMO: Diablo 4 gets a Shared World, where you are out and about with other players. You will meet other players in the wilderness and in towns and also venture out with friends. Together you will fight World Bosses and participate in public events.
Now Diablo 4 continuously receives new chapters that expand the story. Just like it is the case in MMORPGs like World of Warcraft. This makes Diablo 4 increasingly give the impression of an MMO.
