In Diablo 3 the popular event “The Darkness in Tristram” returns on January 1, 2021, where you take a kind of time travel back to 1996. Blizzard gives fans a reason to play Diablo 3 again.
What kind of event is this? Since 2016, Blizzard has offered you the chance to take a nostalgic trip back into the past of the Diablo series. In the event “The Darkness in Tristram“, you essentially travel back to the game Diablo 1 and relive the adventure of old, including an encounter with the first iconic boss from back then: the Butcher.
While you experience the event with the gameplay and graphics of Diablo 3, a graphic filter comes into play that makes the game look a bit more raw during the event: as if it were from 1996, the release year of Diablo 1. Additionally, you hear the music from the classic action RPG, which brings back the atmosphere of the time.
The event was introduced in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Diablo 1 and returns every year around this time.
So while you wait for Diablo Immortal or Diablo 4, the event provides a great reason to play Diablo 3 again and get your fill of Diablo.
Travel to the old Tristram from Diablo 1
How to participate: Starting Friday, January 1, 2021, at 1 AM, a new quest will be available to you, in which you must hunt a group of cultists. They will lead you to a portal.
This portal will open on January 4 at 1 AM. If you use it, you will find yourself in the old Tristram from Diablo 1. From the ruined city, you will reach the dungeon of the hack and slays through the cathedral.
Fight your way down the dungeon until you face the Lord of Darkness, Diablo himself.
What are the rewards? You can look forward to a variety of interesting items, including:
- unique transmogrification effects
- achievements
- portraits
- the Butcher as a pet
- items
How long does the event run? The event ends exactly one month later on the night of January 31, 2021, to February 1, 2021, specifically on February 1 at 1 AM.
