Patch 1.0.4 fixed a ton of bugs in Diablo 4. Some of these were not really recognized as bugs by players. Now there’s outrage, because a bug fix means that certain equipment now requires an extremely high level.
What was the bug?
- In Diablo 4, there is the Codex of Power, which allows you to apply legendary affixes with low effect on items.
- These affixes became stronger over time and scaled with the character’s level. That means: Players enchanted items for their “twinks” with strong aspects using their “mains”.
- This allowed for better legendaries to be crafted than characters at lower levels could even find.
This has now changed: Since the patch 1.0.4 on July 6, this is no longer possible; the strength of an affix now depends on the item’s level, not that of the enchanting character.
Due to the change, it is no longer possible to create extremely strong equipment for second characters. This was previously popular for leveling up new classes and reaching level 100 somewhat faster.
Many players are still leveling a twink before Season 1 to complete the final tasks or to check out other builds. However, the change to the Codex powers now has an unpleasant side effect.
Blizzard announced the upcoming Season 1 directly before the patch:
“The ring was perfect, now it’s locked”
As some users report on Reddit, the level requirements for enchanted items were raised due to the change. Instead of reducing the aspect’s power, the equipment now requires a level beyond 90 to even wear it.
Player ZOMGbies, for example, says: He had the perfect ring for his huntress. Now he can no longer wear it because the level requirement is too high. This sparked a discussion in the community.
The level restrictions of items are bothering many fans on Reddit and in the forums anyway. It’s ridiculous that there are items for high levels that are worse than something you could find earlier. Thus, the thrill of finding something new is lost, and twinks have it harder too. A better system would be one with fixed levels, for example:
- normal items without restriction
- holy items from level 50 or 60
- legacy items from level 60 or 70
However, it is hardly possible to effectively farm equipment for second characters. After all, everything has a high level requirement that blocks wearing it. And the goal is to make leveling for the twink more enjoyable. Accordingly, many fans are now just waiting for Season 1 to finally start.
This was announced by Blizzard directly before the patch. It starts on July 20. Season 1 will introduce a new mechanic, as well as new legendaries, uniques, and a new type of gem that is supposed to enable strong builds. You can find out more about it here:
