Activision Blizzard’s financial report for Q1 2018 praises the MMORPG World of Warcraft. Legion is performing better than Warlords of Draenor. And the new expansion Battle for Azeroth already looks good.
Player counts for WoW kept under wraps: In recent years, Activision Blizzard has moved to only mention the monthly active users of their online games in financial reports. This made things a bit dull. Because what is actually interesting is how many subscribers World of Warcraft has or how many players are online concurrently in the MMORPG.
However, the player counts have been under wraps for several years.
This year in 2018 is a bit different. While exact player counts for WoW were not mentioned in the current financial report for Q1 2018, the company does touch upon WoW and its expansions a bit.
Legion with higher engagement and more in-game purchases
Legion surpasses Warlords of Draenor: Activision Blizzard states in their report that the current expansion Legion has already outperformed the previous addon Warlords of Draenor at this point. Legion achieved stronger engagement and resulted in the community participating more in in-game purchases.
Battle for Azeroth also strong: The upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft, Battle for Azeroth, was also briefly mentioned in the financial report. The pre-orders for the next addon are already ahead of schedule.
Overall, Blizzard boasts 38 million monthly active users for its online games this quarter. This includes World of Warcraft along with Hearthstone and Overwatch. Diablo and Heroes of the Storm are not explicitly mentioned.
