Diablo 2 Resurrected has received a completely revamped graphics update with the remaster. The characters have also been adjusted. One of the classes received a rather controversial change: the Amazon. Now, the development team at Blizzard comments on this.
What has changed? With the overhaul, all 7 classes of Diablo 2 received a new look, including the Amazon. She was once considered particularly “sexy,” and her beauty contrasted with her wild demeanor.
With Resurrected, she has lost much of that wild beauty. In the first images and in the game itself, the new Amazon in Diablo 2 Resurrected had a rather masculine face (see cover image).
Her features were harsher, and the “exotic beauty” from 21 years ago was hardly recognizable. The community had mixed reactions to this change, with some fans even comparing her to actor Willem Dafoe:
This is what Blizzard says about it: In an interview with Axios, Design Director Rob Gallerani discussed the background of the change. The sexualized portrayal of women in Blizzard games has been criticized for over 10 years.
The current sexism scandal surrounding the studio does not help either. The decision was made because they wanted to move away from the “Victoria Secret” approach. However, the most important point is that they wanted to make it clear that the Amazon fights against the forces of Hell.
In Diablo 2, you fight against the Lords of Evil, and that is supposed to reflect in the characters as well. The team did not want the Amazon to look like she “just came from a nightclub.”

Too masculine face? Adjustment in the trailer
How does the Amazon look now? In a new class trailer, the face of the Amazon was shown differently, and now the Amazon looks somewhat more feminine again. This seems to be received quite positively, although the discussion about the Amazon does not subside.
On reddit, numerous fans are discussing whether the changes are good or not:
- Some think they are good and do not understand why some still complain.
- Others found the debate unnecessary from the start. Overall, it seems that the middle ground has been successfully found.
Whether there will be further changes and what her model finally looks like remains to be seen, and we will probably only know for sure at release.
When is Diablo 2 coming? On September 23 at 5:00 PM German time, Diablo 2 Resurrected will launch for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. However, due to the aforementioned sexism debate, many fans are unsure whether to purchase the remaster. Blizzard has already reacted to this:
