One of the Blizzard executives plays the most terrible thing for players of World of Warcraft – the LFR. But he has a good reason.
Those who do not invest quite as much time and commitment in World of Warcraft tend to look at raids only in the LFR variant, even though that is frowned upon by some players with more ambition. You would hardly expect to encounter a celebrity – and yet it happened. Blizzard’s co-leader, Mike Ybarra, raids in LFR as well and has a good reason for it.
What is the LFR? The “Looking for Raid” mode, or short LFR, is the easiest difficulty level of raids in modern World of Warcraft. Many boss abilities are completely absent or drastically weakened. In return, you can automatically assemble a group completely through the group search tool. If players struggle for too long on a boss, there are even strong buffs so that the fight becomes easier on the next try.
Among many players, this mode is frowned upon and is often called “Fool’s Lottery” because you also come into contact with players who are not as experienced or do not know all the mechanics yet.
So what happened? In the World of Warcraft subreddit, the user Msxar posted a screenshot with a small text excerpt from the raid chat of an LFR visit. Players noticed the name “Qwik” from the realm Onyxia – this is Mike Ybarra’s warrior, who apparently was hanging out in the raid.
Although Ybarra wanted to indicate with a “Shhh.” that the topic should not be further highlighted, the screenshot ended up in the subreddit and triggered wild discussions. Why does Ybarra play in LFR when he’s doing other content?
This is what Ybarra says: When the image circulated on Reddit, Ybarra commented on this screenshot himself. A user claimed that “the state of the game can be recognized well when one of the executives prefers to be in LFR instead of running [Mythic] keys.” Ybarra explained:
I look at LFR to see how it is for other players and to meet new people.
This aligns with what Ybarra mentioned about a month ago in an other post on Reddit. There he revealed:
Connecting with the community of all players is really important to me. Playing the game is also important – at all levels.
Even in his streams, Ybarra shows himself to be close to the community, engaging in discussions and sharing his own opinions on various topics around WoW.
More updates on World of Warcraft can be found here:
- 40 mages against 40 death knights – the result is brutal
- Farming legendary items will be greatly simplified in patch 9.1.5
- Almost 70% want Horde and Alliance to play together
Does Ybarra play at such a low level? No. Mike Ybarra is actually a pretty passionate WoW player who faces the toughest challenges. He probably plays even better than most of us, because he also likes to clear dungeons of difficulty “Mythic+20” continuously.
Do you also like to hang out in LFR? Or could you not be dragged into this raid mode even with 10 Elekks?
