Blizzard takes a step back and renames its services again. The “Blizzard App” is no more.
The Blizzard community did not react well to the intention to rename Battle.net. For more than a year, Blizzard tried to distance itself from the name “Battle.net” and instead establish the “Blizzard App” – the same software, just under a different name. Through this, all of Blizzard’s current games can be launched, such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch or Diablo 3.
However, this did not resonate with the users. The name “Blizzard App” was not only bulky in the eyes of most fans but also trampled on the long-standing history of the system. After all, Battle.net has been around since 1996 – more than 20 years.
To integrate the company name while also retaining the old charm of Battle.net, a compromise has now been decided that should satisfy all parties. From now on, it will simply be called “Blizzard Battle.net“.
With a light wink, they explain: “Let it be known by the developers, who were previously known as Silicon & Synapse and then as Chaos Studios: Names are important.”
Cortyn says: Luckily, not all dead ends are followed to the end. Personally, I don’t know anyone who actually used the term “Blizzard App” – unless they wanted to mock the new name. Blizzard is so strongly associated with Battle.net in the minds of most fans that any “confusion risk” only existed for complete newcomers. And if we’re honest: Normally, you get to know Battle.net through friends or other players who have been using it for a while. Therefore. Battle.net is dead, long live Battle.net!
But at least we can be glad that this wasn’t localized either. Otherwise, we would always have to start the battle network…
