Blizzard announced a new expansion for Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2023. “Vessel of Hatred” is set to be released in late 2024. A new class that has never been seen in Diablo is also expected to come to Diablo 4.
This was announced:
- A dedicated team from Blizzard is working on the 1st expansion of Diablo 4, and they are still early in development. The release of the expansion is planned for late 2024.
- The expansion will introduce a new class that has not been seen in Diablo before. So neither Paladin nor Warlock.
- In the coming days, more information about Diablo 4: “Vessel of Hatred” is expected to be released. A bigger presentation is planned for summer 2024.
47-second trailer hints at Mephisto
It’s already suspected: In a 47-second trailer for the expansion, the voice of the demon Mephisto can be heard.
Mephisto is the “Lord of Hatred” in Diablo, one of the three Prime Evils and the father of Lilith.
Leak before BlizzCon gave hints about new class: Spiritborn
Did one see this coming? Yes, a datamining leak in October 2023 found hints that an expansion for Diablo 4 is coming. It was also anticipated for 2024.
Since some parts of the leak have turned out to be true, some in the Diablo 4 community assume that the rest of the leak is also true (via reddit).
The leak also assumed that the new class would be called “Spiritborn”: A class with a “nature” theme. The nature theme was a conclusion drawn by the data miners because they read the word “thorns”.
Additionally, a mercenary system, runes, and rune words are expected to come to Diablo 4.
Expansion spreads Diablo 2 jungle vibes
These are the first reactions to the trailer: The trailer has been commented on somewhat cynically on YouTube so far, as Blizzard has released so little information.
One user compares the trailer to “Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred” with that of The Elder Scrolls 6 – a pure announcement with the promise to show more at some point.
However, there are also voices that are already looking forward to the content. These joyful voices have the feeling of seeing a kind of “Maya expansion” and are happy to visit the city of Kuraast again. Players already know it from Act III of Diablo 2.
Whether the leak is correct and the class will truly be called Spiritborn, we may find out in the coming days:
