Oh dear, in recent weeks, the lawyers from Blizzard and ZeniMax must have had sleepless nights again. As it became known, there are currently two lawsuits from both companies aimed at taking down the bad guys.
The issue of bots and hacks is something we are familiar with from World of Warcraft – but there are also programs for StarCraft II that can give you an advantage. The “ValiantChaos MapHack” reveals the fog on the maps in Blizzard’s real-time strategy game. For a one-time fee of 62.50 Euros, you save a considerable amount of work, time, and see what the opponent is up to. But now Blizzard is taking action against the developers of this program. ZeniMax, the publisher of The Elder Scrolls Online, does have problems with bots, but is going against Oculus Rift. The sticking point here is the alleged use of research results and trade secrets. Game developer John Carmack is said to have brought his knowledge with him when switching to Oculus VR, Inc. and thus significantly contributed to the success of the virtual reality headset. Unfortunately, ZeniMax did not get any of the pie and is correspondingly angry. You can read the corresponding lawsuit here.
