While the curiosities dealer was once a great place for the best loot in Diablo 4, visiting in Season 7 is hardly worth it anymore. Blizzard now admits that the nerf was probably too harsh.
What is wrong with the dealer?
- You can use your collected Obols at the curiosities dealer to “gamble” for items. The dealer was not particularly popular in the early seasons of Diablo 4. In Season 4, Blizzard made adjustments, increasing the cap for Obols and modifying the dealer’s loot.
- In Season 6, the curiosities dealer was so good that an expert feared a nerf. Because when gambling, you could not only get Legendaries but also numerous Uniques, making it the best place for that. Some players even got Mythic Uniques there.
- With Season 7, the developers actually nerfed the popular dealer. According to Blizzard, the high drop rate of Uniques and Mythics was basically a bug.
However, the nerf was so severe that the dealer became completely uninteresting for many players. Instead of trying their luck gambling, many advised to farm loot in the “Witch Tides” and spend the Obols on “Whispering Keys”.
What does the developer say? In a Q&A on YouTube, game designer Aislyn Hall admits that they may have overdone it with the adjustments in Season 7. They are trying to balance the game economy to feel satisfying, but in this case, they “clearly overshot their target”.
The team wants the dealer to be fun and worth visiting. Those spending their Obols should leave the dealer feeling satisfied – and hopefully with some cool items. They also want to ensure that the gambler’s treasure rooms are once again filled with wondrous items.
Whether and when Blizzard will specifically buff the curiosities dealer is not revealed by Aislyn Hall. However, it sounds like the team is at least considering a buff. In the upcoming patch 2.1.3, he is not mentioned yet. Instead, several classes, many witch powers, and an unpopular shrine will receive a buff:
The curiosities dealer is currently no longer a good source for Mythic Uniques. However, some cool new treasure goblins are coming to Diablo 4 soon, providing you with gold, materials, and even Mythics. Although they are introduced as part of an event – they are allowed to stay afterwards.
