We explain the “rhythmic fighting” in Bless Online and how chaining skills works.
Developer Neowiz is overhauling the combat system of Bless Online for the European release. The developer’s goal is to enable “rhythmic” fighting. But what does such a combat system look like?
Where we got the information: Developer Neowiz has published gameplay videos of the classes. Fan Djent has sifted through these videos and deduced how the new combat system will function.
Stances lead to different playstyles
In the Japanese version of Bless Online, players can equip up to eleven skills at the same time. For our version, the number of active skills is limited to seven.

The new combat system is set to have more depth and complexity compared to the Japanese version. To achieve this, Neowiz has implemented a combo system.
Combos are chains of skills that trigger different effects depending on the class. For example, the different stances of the mage grant him elemental energy, which is released upon completing a combo. This release provides the mage with various bonuses.

Classes have different stances to choose from, with two being equipable at any given time. Players can switch between these two stances at any moment with the press of a button.
Each stance has three active abilities that can initiate combos. The combo starters can be chained with subsequent abilities from their skill tree into a three-tier combo.
When you switch between a stance, your first three of the seven active abilities change.
Successfully finishing combos requires your attention
To successfully chain a combo, you need to react quickly.
The chaining always follows the same principle:
- You start the combo with a combo starter.
- During a short time window, you quickly select one of three possible abilities to continue the combo. Your choice determines which ability finishes the combo.
- In the last step, you finish your three-tier combo with the last ability in the skill tree.

With three combo starters, each with three different follow-up abilities, you can activate nine combos in each stance. The revamped combat system seems to give players flexibility and depth to the combat system.
