Blade & Soul: Hongmoon Rising has just been announced and is set to explain the backstory to NCSoft’s popular Kung-Fu anime online role-playing game. Additionally, the game will run on both PC and mobile devices.
NCSoft’s Blade and Soul is getting a prequel! With Blade & Soul: Hongmoon Rising, the Korean publisher has announced a whole new game in the colorful anime Kung-Fu universe of the series, which is set to be developed in collaboration with the Chinese developer Tencent. According to NCSoft, the new game is expected to have a similar skill and combat system as the original Blade & Soul. And even in the trailer for the game, we can see clear parallels: wild Kung-Fu fights, action gameplay, as well as sexy outfits and a hyperactive breast physics engine for female characters! Furthermore, both games share the same world and many known characters, such as Master Hong, Mushin, and Jinsoyun, should reappear.

The title of the game – Hongmoon Rising – is also a clear indication of the game’s theme. The eponymous Hongmoon school possesses particularly strong martial arts and is therefore destroyed by Jinsoyun right at the beginning of the game. The majority of the story of Blade & Soul revolves around avenging the fall of our school and rediscovering the secret Hongmoon arts. In the prequel, we will possibly learn how these arts were first discovered.
Especially interesting: Blade & Soul: Hongmoon Rising will not only be released for PC. Rather, the game – as part of NCSoft’s repositioning in the mobile market – will also run on mobile devices, such as Android smartphones, tablets, and Apple devices. According to NCSoft, the mobile component is particularly important, as they want to provide the best mobile experience in the Blade & Soul universe. Even VR support is not entirely ruled out. Further details about Blade & Soul: Hongmoon Rising are not yet known.
