In Blade & Soul, items can be upgraded in several ways. Today we explain how gems and transformations work.
A Reason to Farm
As part of the item spiral that keeps almost every MMORPG alive, there are also ways to further enhance equipment in Blade & Soul or to convert unwanted items into useful materials. Unlike many other games, a large part of the clothing serves only aesthetic purposes – actual stats come from weapons, accessories, and the Bagua (a type of magical medallion) of the characters.
Gems – A Weapon Upgrade with Many Facets

Particularly high-quality weapons feature several gem slots that correspond to the sockets found in many other MMORPGs. Gems come in various colors and rarity levels, with the rarer ones logically having better stats. However, to ensure that all players do not only use gems of the same type and for example increase a stat to infinity, only one gem of the same color can be used per weapon. This ensures that players must strive for gems of all colors to get the best possible performance from their weapon.
Transformations – Creating New Stuff from Junk
Regardless of the gems, there is the transformation system, which allows unwanted loot to be broken down into its components. These materials can then be used to create new rewards. So, if you diligently break down gems, you will receive gem fragments, which can then be converted into reward boxes that contain entirely new gems.

This works with weapons, Bagua, gems, accessories, and costumes alike, though additional materials may occasionally be required. Moreover, not all items can be guaranteed to be created through transformation – there is a certain failure rate with some recipes that causes the materials to simply disappear.
