The Blackout Beta, the battle royale mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, is over. Time to check the mood in the community. There, one hears mainly enthusiasm, especially compared to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).
What is Blackout? Blackout is the battle royale mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The developers at Treyarch have created a fast-paced, fun, and well-thought-out game mode with Blackout. They combine familiar BR mechanics with new ideas, including perks and characters from the Call of Duty lore.
Moreover, Blackout is fast. It starts with jumping from a wingsuit and quickly getting to the ground. Also, you might encounter the iconic Call of Duty zombies as a mini PvE component.
But now the Blackout Beta is over and players eagerly await the release of the game on October 12. Some fans even started a petition to extend the Black Ops 4 Beta.
“How am I supposed to endure until Black Ops 4 releases?”
Players love Black Ops 4: The sentiment among players after the Blackout Beta is extremely positive. On Reddit, threads are piling up where players wholeheartedly praise the new battle royale mode:
- “I can’t go back to PUBG anymore.”
- “I tried a few games [in PUBG] last night, but after three days of Blackout it’s now totally clear what my new main game will be. [PUBG] felt so slow and sluggish.”
- “To be honest, I think Blackout and Fortnite will dominate the BR genre on consoles. Both are different enough to cater to player A or B. PUBG is done for in my opinion.”
- This is the second-best battle royale game out of the gate – In the Beta! It impresses me how they managed to make it look so complete and polished compared to PUBG – In the Beta!”
- “As a PUBG and Fortnite player, I have no motivation to go back to those games. What am I supposed to play for the next month?”
Streamer would pay $5,000 to play Black Ops 4 right now
The praise for the game is shared by big streamers, including the notorious scandal streamer DrDisrespect. He would even pay $5,000 if he could play the release version right now instead of waiting until October 12. Many players on Reddit agree:
- “I feel the same way. Sure, I don’t have $5,000 to throw around, but I haven’t had this much fun since the early days of PUBG.”
- “Same opinion! I went to Fortnite after the disastrous way PUBG went after 300 hours of playtime and came to the Blackout Beta without great expectations. I was pleasantly surprised that it felt like a well-optimized PUBG with the shooting mechanics of CoD. I will grind hard when it comes out!”
- “Honestly, I didn’t know what to play after the Beta, so I downloaded something that comes close to the pace of the game: Doom!”
Players see little future for PUBG
While Fortnite seems largely safe from Black Ops 4 in the eyes of players, the days of PUBG are likely counted for many fans.
Black Ops 4 simply does many things better and would cater to the same audience. So players who don’t like the comic look and aren’t into building in a shooter.
