With the recent playlist update, a popular playlist has been removed in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC. Many players are wondering and discussing the reasons.
What has been removed from Black Ops 4? Recently, as part of the new Operation Grand Heist, there was an update for the multiplayer playlists. The PC received special treatment. The changes were different than on the consoles PS4 and Xbox One.
In this case, the developers at Treyarch removed all individual game modes on PC and combined them into so-called overarching Moshpit playlists with other modes. Formats like Domination or Hardpoint can no longer be played individually.
Even the classic mode par excellence, Team Deathmatch, is no longer playable as a standalone playlist on PC. It has been combined with Kill Confirmed in the Deathmatch Moshpit playlist, which particularly displeases many fans.

Many associate this cult mode with the classic “Call of Duty” experience. Not everyone is keen to collect tags or play objective-based modes; they just want to focus on kills.
Before the launch of Black Ops 4, Treyarch promised to take the wishes and needs of the PC community into account more strongly. For some fans, the current development is the exact opposite of those words.

What does the combination mean for players? Many would connect the Team Deathmatch mode directly with the classic “Call of Duty” experience. However, it can now only be played interchangeably with Kill Confirmed, which is not exactly popular among many deathmatch enthusiasts.
This now either leads to having to endure this unpopular mode and take part in it reluctantly or to leaving matches more often and searching for a new lobby where Team Deathmatch is currently available or being played. None of this is comfortable or player-friendly.
Other previously individually playable modes also suffer from exactly this problem.

What are the reasons for the removal? There was no official explanation other than “improving the multiplayer experience”.
Regarding the reasons for the merging and the removal of individual formats, players assume that it is directly related to the player population on PC.
Unfortunately, the numbers are not visible. However, PC players have increasingly reported that it has taken longer to find a full match or fill a lobby in some modes recently.
By merging different modes into a common overarching playlist, players would be able to find new teammates faster and avoid this problem.

Also, the fact that Treyarch is considering lowering the necessary player count for a match from 10 – 12 to 8 – 10 players supports this assumption for some fans.
However, while some are upset about the merging and the presumed reasons for it, others fans remind that this solution may be better in the long run than letting individual modes completely die out. Otherwise, Black Ops 4 could potentially lose more players.
However, not all changes to the playlists are viewed negatively by players. Many are particularly looking forward to this upcoming mode:
What do you think about this removal and the merging of individual modes into overarching playlists? Does this decrease the appeal of multiplayer for you, or does this change keep it alive on PC?
