Treyarch has announced a new playlist for the traditional multiplayer part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 , which is likely to please fans of classic, grounded gameplay.
What happened? On February 27, Treyarch released a video in which the developers provide an update on the recently launched Operation Grand Heist.
In addition to numerous details about the Zombies and Blackout mode, some changes to the regular multiplayer were also discussed. In this context, a new multiplayer playlist was also briefly announced.
This is called Barebones and fulfills a significant wish of many fans, which some have been longing for since the launch of Black Ops 4.

What do we know about the new Barebones playlist? Two aspects are supposed to distinguish this mode from the current multiplayer experience:
- In this playlist, there will be no specialists. Players will not have special abilities or equipment available and will have to rely on their skills with the standard arsenal.
- In the Barebones playlist, classic gameplay rules are supposed to apply. What this precisely means has not yet been explained by the developers.
When this playlist is supposed to go live is also not yet known. It is only certain that it will be introduced during the Operation Grand Heist, so within the next few months.

What makes this mode so special? The special thing about this playlist is that it has emerged from community feedback.
There are numerous players who have never really warmed up to the futuristic specialist concept and instead prefer classic and more grounded multiplayer gameplay like in Black Ops 1 or the Modern Warfare series.
This part of the community has been almost begging Treyarch since launch to introduce a mode without specialists. Now it seems that these players will soon get their due as well.

How are fans reacting: On Reddit and social media, this announcement is being received very positively. Many say that it is one of the best pieces of news since the launch of Black Ops 4 and that they can hardly wait to dive into the new playlist.
Numerous players wish that this mode will be permanently available and not just introduced as a limited-time playlist in Black Ops 4. There is also lively debate about what the “classic gameplay rules” could specifically mean.
Some players speculate that within this framework, for example, the killstreaks could return to scorestreaks or the score limits for certain modes could be lowered. Fans can also imagine a reduction in sprint speed or the exclusion of certain weapons and perks.
What do you think of the upcoming Barebones playlist? Are you excited about a mode without specialists? Or are they indispensable for you?
