Being killed by a basketball is the new “getting knifed”, at least in the blackout mode of Call of Duty Black Ops 4.
In online shooters, superior players enjoy humiliating others with a particularly demeaning kill. Often these are knife kills, especially when a sniper is camping in a corner without securing his back.
But in the blackout mode of Call of Duty 4, it is an orange ball that gets thrown at enemies instead of into baskets. And being killed this way is not a pleasant feeling.
Ball instead of weapon – In Black Ops 4 it’s
Blackout is the battle royale mode of Call of Duty Black Ops 4. In this mode, players can carry a basketball in one of the weapon slots. However, they must forgo a weapon in exchange. Since you can achieve cool kills with the ball, this disadvantage feels insignificant. In the Blackout beta, basketball was played eagerly.
How much damage does the ball do? The basketball only does minimal damage to enemies and can therefore only kill players who have very low HP and are almost dead. It is assumed that the round leather causes 3 damage upon impact.
Timing is crucial: Enemies must be wounded enough to be killed by the ball. Then you need to prove your timing and throw the ball before they are killed by other shots or damage.
Players have achieved this: In a clip, the player putridorange shows what such a basketball kill looks like. He first shoots down an enemy, then lands a few bullets in enemy bodies before running back to the basketball court. He returns with the ball, aims, and throws the opponent dead.
Another basketball kill: The next video comes from Twitter user ayzsuzume. In the final moments of the game, he and his squad find a lonely opponent. First, they play with him. Then a player pulls out the basketball, aims, and throws the ball at his head. The timing was perfect, the opponent falls down, and ayzsuzume and his team secure the victory.
Unfortunately, the beta of Blackout has now ended. In the end, there was an extension and a new player limit.
