In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 a popular fun mode from earlier installments is making its return – Prop Hunt. There, you can wreak havoc on the maps as a trash can or lamp.
What is the new mode about? The developers at Treyarch have confirmed a new mode for the multiplayer of Black Ops 4 and have recently teased it again. Prop Hunt is expected to go live on PS4 later this week, while other platforms will traditionally follow a week later.
What is Prop Hunt? Prop Hunt is essentially a fun mode for the multiplayer of some Call of Duty installments, and soon for Black Ops 4 as well.
This mode originally came as an April Fool’s joke in Modern Warfare Remastered but became so popular with fans that it was made a permanent part of the game. Prop Hunt also returned in Call of Duty: WW II and Black Ops 3 to the delight of many fans.

It was inspired by the mod of the same name for the PC version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
How does Prop Hunt work? There are two teams with different roles. One side plays as hunters, while the other plays as random props, or objects.
The props have a specific time to hide on the map. They take the form of various objects such as
- trash cans
- refrigerators
- crates
- chairs
- cars
- trees
- pianos
- barrels
- bicycles
- antennas
- or lamp posts
and must position themselves as unobtrusively as possible. Their form blends with the surroundings of the respective map and can be randomly changed several times. Moreover, the props can stun their opponents once per form to escape and move silently.

The hunters then set out with some weapons and unlimited ammunition and must find and shoot the props within the allotted time. If the hunters succeed, they win the round. If the props survive, they win the round. The first to win three rounds takes the match.
When is the mode expected to come? There is no exact date yet. Fans speculate that the new operation “Spectre Rising” in Black Ops 4 will start on April 30. In this context, it is also expected that Prop Hunt will make its way into the game.
How are fans reacting? The initial reactions have largely been positive. Some are already familiar with this mode from predecessors and are looking forward to being able to play this fun format in Black Ops 4 soon. Some are hearing about Prop Hunt for the first time but are curious to see how this new mode plays.
