Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has not met everyone’s taste with the new Blackout mode “Ambush”. Some fans are complaining and have criticized it. Studio head David Vonderhaar has now responded.
What is Ambush? This limited-time game mode for Black Ops 4: Blackout has some special features compared to the regular battle royale:
- There are only sniper rifles, melee weapons, and launchers
- The death zone never stops once it has started, leading to much movement among players.
What fans do not like about the mode: A major criticism from players about Ambush is that there are vehicles. Since the zone circle constantly moves, players with vehicles have a significant advantage. This is unfair for many players.
Other fans criticize the Bowie knife, as it seems to promise fairly quick kills.
In response to this criticism, chief developer David Vonderhaar has now reacted on Twitter.
This is what the head says about the fans’ criticism
In several tweets, David Vonderhaar, the chief developer at Treyarch, expressed his thoughts regarding the fans’ feedback. He agrees with them on several points and promises improvements:
- Vonderhaar also believes that vehicles have no place in this game mode.
- The zone itself is not quite right for him either. He wants to change something there, possibly a slower collapse in the final phase.
- He finds the Bowie knife itself okay, but it should occur less frequently. He is planning an adjustment of the loot chance.

What do you think about Vonderhaar’s feedback? Is it nice that he addresses it, or do you think the changes are too few?
