However, on reddit, a purported restriction for streamers and reviewers is being discussed, which is clearly false, but has created quite a stir.
How is Black Myth Wukong performing in reviews? Very well: The action RPG currently has 82% positive ratings on Metacritic.
- The German GameStar gives a preliminary rating between 80 and 85%
- The usually strict PC Gamer awards 87% and praises especially “the expressive combat system”
- an outlier downwards, Screenrant with 60% is hotly debated, criticizing among other things the lack of diversity

What is being discussed on reddit? While Black Myth Wukong is currently the biggest topic on reddit, it is not about the quality of the game.
They are discussing an article by Don Parson about the free platform “Medium“, which claims:
- There is a streaming agreement for Black Myth Wukong
- Developer Game-Science has distributed keys to YouTubers and Twitch streamers, but imposed some prohibitions on them
- For example, they are not allowed to discuss: Politics, violence, feminist propaganda, the Chinese Covid policy of isolation, or anything related to China
What is the catch? Meanwhile, some have come forward and said: This is a total hoax. Such instructions simply do not exist.
However, the original article led to a heated discussion on reddit:
- The original thread that shared the Medium article received 1,500 comments and 1,300 upvotes
- The follow-up thread, arguing that the article was untrue, received 2,600 upvotes and 509 comments
In the original thread, many criticize that such an unbelievable source receives so much support because the rumor feeds the prejudices of reddit users against China. Reddit users are largely located in the USA, and there are strong reservations against China.
And the exposure of this story as false is now sparking a heated discussion because it is claimed that there is supposedly an “anti-China” sentiment being stirred up on reddit. The moderators of the subreddit are especially criticized for not intervening more firmly.

Update 19.8, 10:05 AM: As it has been reported, the guidelines for discussion seem to be real after all. However, they were not sent to journalists, but only to content creators. The guidelines seem to be more of a recommendation, as Forbes reports. Acceptance of the guidelines was apparently not linked to receiving a review code for Black Myth Wukong.
