What kind of device is it? The Fritzbox 7590 is the top model from the Berlin manufacturer AVM, which specializes in routers, repeaters, and other devices. Although it is not a gaming router, the device offers plenty of modern features.
What the Fritzbox offers: The device supports the so-called Supervectoring technology for particularly fast DSL connections. This technology is especially interesting for people looking for a future-proof device. The device offers some interesting features:
- MU-MIMO is especially interesting for users who want to connect many devices to their router at the same time. PC, smartphone, and console can be supplied with data from the router simultaneously.
- The device offers extensive telephony and smart home features. This way, additional compatible devices can also be connected to the Fritzbox.
- With (11ac 5 GHz) and 800 Mbit/s (11n 2.4 GHz), the device offers you modern WLAN technology.
- Also noteworthy: analog and ISDN connections can also be connected to the Fritzbox, even though they are not as widespread anymore.
- However, the 7590 does not support the new WiFi 6 (802.11ax), but only offers WiFi 5 (802.11ac). WiFi 6 offers more performance than WiFi 5.
Fritzbox 7590: What testers say
The Stiftung Warentest examined eight routers for their issue 3/20. Here, the Fritzbox 7590 emerged as the test winner with “Very Good” (1.6). Following it were the Fritzbox 7530 with Good (1.6) and the TP-Link Archer VR2800v also with Good (2.1). The device also performs very well in other tests:
- ComputerBild praises the high performance and future security of the device: “Anyone buying a DSL router now should consider the Fritzbox 7590. Hardly any other router is as future-proof, especially for DSL.” The only criticism is the slow USB ports of the box.
- Chip.de also praises the device. The testers write: “The Fritzbox 7590 performs extremely well in our test. The data rates leave almost nothing to be desired. Additionally, once again, it has the most complete equipment in the top list. And thanks to FritzOS, operating it is also wonderfully easy.”
- According to PC Magazin, the device offers an enormous range of features. There is criticism of the high price of over 200 euros: “The AVM top model for VDSL2 customers hardly leaves any wishes unfulfilled in terms of equipment and functions. The WLAN performance is also convincing across the board. But all of this comes at a price.”

The Fritzbox 7530 is the little brother of the Fritzbox 7590 and offers slightly fewer features, costing around 100 euros less than the 7590. The 7530 also offers good WLAN performance and supports Supervectoring.
Less performance: In WLAN, the Fritzbox 7530 offers slightly less performance than the larger model, as it can only operate with two data streams, while the Fritzbox 7590 works with 4 data streams. For most users, the difference is hardly noticeable.
Fewer ports: Another difference is the ports. The smaller box only offers one USB 3.0 port and no connection for a modem. It also does not offer an ISDN and WAN port.
Fritzbox 7590 – Who is the device worth it for?
For whom is the device worth it? If you are looking for a modern router that supports almost all modern standards and offers easy-to-use software, you should take a look at the Fritzbox 7590. Additionally, other devices from AVM can also be connected to the Fritzbox. Especially the Supervectoring technology is a future-proof investment in the long term.
Supervectoring is also offered by the cheaper, smaller brother. Most users, therefore, can also easily opt for the Fritzbox 7530. The differences are hardly noticeable in everyday use.
What does the device cost? The price at market launch in fall 2018 was 249 euros. By now, you can already get the Fritzbox 7590 for under 200 euros on sale.

Good alternatives to the Fritzbox
If you can do without a Fritzbox and FritzOS, you can also look elsewhere. Other providers also offer interesting devices.
