The developers of Black Desert spoke in a press release about current player numbers and revenues of the MMORPG. They also discussed the collaboration with EVE Online and the mobile game.
How many players does Black Desert have? Black Desert currently has more than 18 million registered players. These come from over 150 different countries around the world.
The MMORPG also gained an increase in players through the release on Xbox One and the launch of the mobile game in Korea. However, there is no detailed breakdown by platform.
Recently, Black Desert made headlines mainly with a failed wave of bans and with the removal of the Battle Royale Arena. Nevertheless, things are going well for the MMORPG.
How successful is Black Desert? The development of Black Desert has paid off for the studio Pearl Abyss. Over the four years since its release, the franchise generated more than one billion in revenue.
This includes revenue from all platforms. However, around 30% of the revenue has already been generated from the mobile game.
Currently, Pearl Abyss employs about 700 people. Some of them are set to move to a new office in California soon to improve support in the West. A huge headquarters is also being worked on in their home country.
The future is mobile and a little Korean
Will Black Desert Mobile come to us? Currently, the mobile game for Black Desert can only be played in Korea. But according to CEO Robin Jung, that is supposed to change.
Still in 2019, the game is supposed to be released worldwide, including here. Jung is confident that Black Desert Mobile will be a success and revenues will continue to rise.
EVE Online will be Korean: Alongside Black Desert, the press release also mentioned the company CCP Games, known for developing the MMORPG EVE Online. CCP Games was bought by Pearl Abyss in 2018.
The studio from Iceland will continue to work independently on their games in the future. The goal is mainly an exchange and collaboration between the two companies.
The first joint action is a localization of EVE Online. The MMORPG is set to be released in Korean soon.
Further development of Black Desert on Xbox: Since the release in March, there have already been two major updates for the Xbox version of Black Desert.
This aligns with the goals set by CEO Jung. Black Desert should be successful on all platforms. Accordingly, the release calendar is quite full for Xbox until June:
