In Black Desert, there are no instanced dungeons or raids. This MMORPG is designed for players to meet each other and play together or against one another. However, before Black Desert saw the light of day, players could bash through many hundreds of instanced dungeons, the developers revealed.
During E3, Pearl Abyss, the developer of Black Desert, held its first developer conference. There, participants could ask questions to some high-ranking officials from Pearl Abyss during a Q&A session.
“Instanced dungeons simply do not fit Black Desert”
That’s why there are no instanced dungeons in Black Desert: When Black Desert was still in development, it had many instanced dungeons. It is said that there were “hundreds of instanced dungeons when BDO was first developed.”
However, as the development team spent more time with the game, they realized that instanced dungeons simply didn’t fit Black Desert. Thus, these contents were removed before players could immerse themselves in the game during a closed beta.
World instead of dungeon: For the developers involved, it was not an easy decision to remove content from the game they had spent so much time on. The team wanted players to travel through the world and experience adventures in a beautiful world full of mysterious places. Instanced dungeons simply did not fit the concept.
Really hundreds? Whether the developers really planned “hundreds of dungeons” or if they exaggerated a bit is unknown. It is also unclear how far the dungeons were already developed. In any case, it is said that “a lot of time was invested in them” before they were removed from the game.
No dungeons and no raids
What applies to dungeons also applies to raids. According to the staff team, raids are not content that can be easily implemented in Black Desert. Instead, they focused more on content that fits better into the game.
What is not, can still become. However, the team is open to new challenges. And perhaps Black Desert Online will eventually have instanced dungeons and raids that fit well into the game world.
Black Desert Mobile is coming, other games are in the works
Games in the Black Desert universe are in the works. Pearl Abyss is currently working on a project set in the world of Black Desert Online. Information about it has not yet been released, but they have a lot to show players when the time comes.
When can you play the mobile version? Black Desert Mobile is set to launch in the first quarter of 2019 in North America and Europe. The mobile version features stunning graphics and is controlled from above.
