The sandbox MMORPG Black Desert has received an unparalleled PR boost just before launch. YouTube star PewDiePie played around with the character editor.
Nowhere is it mentioned that this is sponsored, and if they really have nothing to do with it, then publisher Daum must have hit the jackpot with a six in the lottery. Swedish YouTube star PewDiePie (42.4 million subscribers) just played with the character editor of Black Desert and uploaded it to YouTube. It wouldn’t be a big deal if someone else in the world did it. When the biggest YouTube star in the world does it, it has consequences and can steer interest in the game and thus the sales figures in the right direction, from Black Desert’s perspective.
The video has already garnered over 300,000 views in a short time. Far more than, for example, the launch trailer. That had about 120,000 views after 1 week.
In the video, PewDiePie experiments with the character editor, but the game’s fans have already seen all of that. The graphics are great, the possibilities are endless, but it has nothing to do with gameplay.
In any case, it’s an incredible PR boost for the niche MMORPG Black Desert. They will surely reach an audience they would hardly have reached otherwise – and apparently for free. Congratulations to Daum.
