The MMORPG Black Desert is getting a new class. This was announced at an event in South Korea. The class “Shai” is designed to be cute, will be a supporter, and uses a boomerang. It is said to significantly differ from the previous classes.
Where was the class introduced? The Shai is the next new playable race and class in Black Desert. It was introduced at the “Heidel Festa” by Pearl Abyss. However, everything is in Korean. We at MeinMMO refer to two English-speaking sources reporting on the event.
Class is expected very soon
What makes it special: Normally, we players in Europe have to wait a long time for new classes. But not for the “Shai”:
- In South Korea, players will be able to create a Shai starting June 12 – but they cannot play it yet. It should be playable from June 19.
- In North America, Europe, Japan, and Russia, players will be allowed to create it from June 19 – significantly earlier than usual. Perhaps it will be available to us as early as June 26.
Apparently, it is thanks to the “global version” of Black Desert that everything is expected to go faster.
Shai: Support, Crafting, Social
What can the Shai do? The class “Shai” is also its race. It is a rather “childlike race”, as Pearl Abyss describes it as “adorable”.
Speculation started back in 2015, that such a childlike race would come as a playable character to Black Desert.
Shai is a support class with the boomerang “Florang” and a small sphere “Viclari.” The boomerang is said to be about as big as she is. With the boomerang, the Shai can attack or dodge in Black Desert.
She supports her group with buffs, healing, and shields – additionally, she is mobile and can slide in and out of fights.
What is special about the Shai? Three peculiarities have already been noted that are not directly related to her style of play:
- It is said that when she is created, she already has a master level in alchemy and gathering.
- She will also have unique crafting recipes for “the campfire”, a new social object in Black Desert.
- Shai will also get three types of donkeys with special skills that only Shai can use. For example, there is a “Wander Mode” that allows her to explore the world of Black Desert in a calmer, more relaxed manner.
Boomerang Lady tends to tantrums
These are Shai’s skills in Black Desert:
- One, Two, Three – Shai can throw her boomerang up to three times, and with each throw, she calls out a number. Those hit by the boomerang will be knocked back.
- Tantrum – here Shai gets angry and throws her boomerang, which can be thrown further.
- Found You – Shai runs joyfully and brings light to the surroundings. With this, she can reveal hidden things – monsters rush towards her.
- Come Here and Hide – Shai creates a zone around herself. Everyone in this zone will be protected from attacks for a few seconds. However, Shai must ensure that no enemies are in the zone when she casts Come Here and Hide.
- Play Dead – Shai pretends to be dead to trick friends and other adventurers. However, this will not work against monsters, it is said.
What is special? The interesting thing here is that the Shai is apparently not a pure combat class but is moving towards “crafting”/”social”. Pearl Abyss has announced that more classes should also differ significantly from the previous ones.
Next, they are likely planning Dwarves and Rhutums as new classes/races for Black Desert. A new class is expected every year.
