For those looking to quickly access the strongest skills in Black Desert Online or dive into PvP, you should level your character quickly to 56 or even higher. We will show you the best way to achieve this in 2022.
Why should you level up quickly in Black Desert? At level 56, you unlock powerful “Awakening” skills or the “Succession” skills introduced in 2019. This is when your character reaches its full potential, and you’ll need these skills to progress in endgame and PvP.
We have expanded the guide a bit because at level 58 there is an additional chest with equipment, and you can level from 58 to 61 using a special method. Level 61 is considered the “soft cap”.
However, we particularly advise beginners to stay away from this method. You should take your time to explore the game and level up with quests. Although this may not be as exciting as pure grinding, it will familiarize you with the game and the various activities.
What else can I do to level up faster? To reach level ups even faster, various buffs will help you:
- The server buff: +100% EXP [received for the Olivia server]
- [Combat fame] Faster and Stronger V: +100% combat EXP [received when reaching level 15]
- Scroll: Combat EXP: +100% combat EXP [available in the real money shop]
- Golden Bell: +100% combat EXP [depends on the channel you are in]
- Strong Experience Elixir: +15% combat EXP
- Infinity Magic Crystal – Experience: +10% combat EXP [Item for the helmet, can be crafted via the Dark Spirit’s greed]
- [Tent] Mercenary Experience: +10% combat EXP
- Guild XP Boost: 10% combat EXP
- Pets: 0-25% EXP
- Title: 0-12% EXP
How did the guide come about? The guide is based on personal experience and some tips from Florian aka RisingSun, the first European to reach level 66.
The fastest way: Power-Leveling
What is Powerleveling? To really get to level 61 quickly, you need a well-equipped and strong teammate and go into a group with them. They will pull you through tough areas, and you’ll passively gain EXP.
Depending on how many buffs you use, you can reach level 60 in just a few hours. However, you won’t receive loot from enemies that are 5 levels or more above you.
Where is the fastest place to powerlevel? For levels 1-55, you level fastest at the Sausan Garrison northeast of Heidel or Polly’s Forest in the south of Kamasylvia.
From level 55+ the Mirumok Ruins are a good leveling spot.
Leveling the fastest alone: Here’s how
If you want to venture out alone and level without a partner, you can still reach level 56 and beyond in just a few hours. We will show you which areas to visit and in what order.
Compared to our old guide, we have slightly reduced the number of areas to minimize time wasted on travel. Within the first hour, you should easily reach level 30.
Level 1-15: “Tutorial” to Rotnose
When you start with a new character in the game, it makes sense to play the quests up to Rotnose. With the server buff and an active scroll, you can already reach level 15. You also receive inventory expansions, which are useful later.
After that, however, you should skip quests and focus on pure grinding against enemies. This is significantly faster in terms of XP.
Level 15-19: Altar Goblin
The first area where you can level is named Altar Goblin and is located south of Rotnose. There you will find many goblins in one spot, allowing you to progress quickly.
Level 19-26: Swamp Naga
The second area, Swamp Naga, is located directly south of Altar Goblin. There you will encounter monsters that stand closely together in the middle of the swamp, making them easy to defeat quickly and effectively.
Level 26-35: Khuruto/Khurut Cave
After you leave the swamp behind, head west, past the Orc camp and through Delphe Castle. In Khuruto, you will find several camps where many enemies gather in one spot.
Additionally, you can head to a cave for a change. In the Khurut Cave, many enemies are waiting for you, which you can quickly take down one after the other.
Level 35-40: Abandoned Land
If leveling in the cave becomes boring, you can look forward to a little variety. Between levels 35 and 40, you level up in the abandoned land located northwest of the city of Calpheon and southwest of Khuruto.
Level 40-45: Marni Path
After reaching level 40, continue south, through the city of Calpheon into the Marni Path. There, some not-so-strong enemies are waiting for you, which you can quickly take down.
Level 45-50: Eelmen’s Camp
Southwest of the cave path is the camp of the Eelmen, where you will level up to level 50. Keep in mind that at level 50, open PvP combat begins. You’ll also be prompted by a short quest that you need to activate at the Black Spirit before reaching level 50.
“Automatic” Leveling from Level 50
From level 50, there is also the option to level up “automatically”. Through the training of the Black Spirit, you can purchase training manuals for 1,000,000 silver per hour in the cities from NPC Jamey Drucker.
Using these, you can start training at a scarecrow and earn experience points regularly. This trick was also used by RisingSun to reach level 66.
Level 50-56: Helm’s Post
After reaching level 50, you take the farthest journey yet. Helm’s Post is located northeast of the city of Heidel and is very popular with players because Asula accessories can drop there.
Here you can theoretically continue from level 53 to the Sausan Garrison or simply keep leveling.
Level 56-58: Cadry Ruins
Further west of the Sausan Garrison are the Cadry Ruins. This is a possible spot to level from 56 to 58. Alternatives are the Crescent Shrine and Gahaz Bandit Hideout, which are both significantly farther away.
Level 58-61: Chenga Tome and Quests
For levels 58 to 61, there is a special trick that was revealed to us by RisingSun. First, you need an item that you can acquire by following a quest line given to you by the Black Spirit at level 53 (Adventurer’s Tome).
A detailed guide to the quest line can be found in English on the gaming site Grumpygreen.
After obtaining the item, you will complete a lot of quests, preferably in the order shown in the picture that RisingSun sent us:

This video by YouTuber “Der Schnauzer” also shows you how to level from 60 to 61 in just under an hour.
Level 61 and then?
In Black Desert, there is no maximum level. Theoretically, you can continue playing endlessly. However, the EXP required to go from one level to the next doubles, making each stage quite laborious.
The first players reached level 66 back in 2019, the first Western player only in January 2020. The leveling challenges will never run out, as long as you have the desire to pursue them. However, from level 63, you will receive only minimal benefits for your attributes and no more rewards or skills.
