In Black Desert Online your hero grows beyond himself with his awakening skills and only uses the stylish new weapon. However, in Korea, there are now new so-called “absolute skills”. With these, your regular weapons will be at least as strong as the awakening version.
A problem in Black Desert Online has been that you can actually throw your old weapons away without a care when you “awaken” at level 56. The new weapon you get is so strong that it is mostly indispensable. Who wants to hit around with bare hands as a sorceress when you can have a cool scythe with much more DPS instead?
But actually, it’s a pity because the old weapons would have had their charm. The developers are aware of this as well, because in Korea there are now new skills that hit as hard with the old weapons as the awakening weapons do.
Double to triple damage through absolute skills
The new skill alternative to awakening is called “absolute skills”. These are extremely powerful versions of some (but not all) existing skills. You can only use the new abilities from the awakening and they offer double to triple the DPS potential of the regular skills.
With the new absolute skills, you can really use the old weapon instead of the awakening weapon more often with a clear conscience. The downside of the new skills is that they cost a lot of skill points. Costs of 50 or more points are certainly possible. So you have to weigh whether to upgrade your old weapon or the awakening item.
Absolute skills and skill fusion are not the same!
Also interesting: The absolute skills are something different than the skill fusion from the also new mechanic “Rabam’s Enlightenment”. Both features are completely different and do not influence each other.
So far, the new absolute skills are only available in Korea and only for the classes warrior and ranger.
Since the information about the absolute skills became known, the community has been debating actively. Most players think the idea is great. However, there are concerns that it will take months before all classes have their absolute skills. So similar to the endless wait for the awakening weapon of every hero before.
Others, however, contradict this because the absolute skills are “only” improved values of old abilities, not new skills. However, some players fear that the constant increase in DPS skills will come at the expense of defense in PvP.
